Brazil: Sofa Factory Owner Luis Scussolino Found Dead After Mass Layoffs
Luis Antonio Scussolino, 66, was the owner of Luizzi Estofados, a sofa manufacturer in Rio Claro, Sao Paulo, Brazil. During the country's recession, sales dropped by about 70 per cent. After employees refused cuts to their hours and wages, he dismissed a substantial portion of the workforce. The company had about 870 employees, with most reports stating that 223 were laid off, while others gave the figure as 233. Soon after making the announcement, he was admitted to hospital following a mild heart attack. On Tuesday morning, June 21, 2016, a worker arriving at the factory found him dead inside. Civil police classified the death as suicide but said the case would still be investigated. A widely circulated later account said he had dismissed 300 workers and was closing the company, but both claims were later checked and found to be incorrect: the business was being restructured, not closed.  ·  ·  · |

despite facing difficulties because of the drop in sales, continued employment of 870 employees. Also stressed that the dismissals were motivated by fall of 70% in revenues. Bit dractic step to hang yourself over that. it's not like everything is over so yea maybe he was murdered. |
