Brazil - River Pirates Murdered 6 Miners

Amazonas – A group of six miners was murdered this Friday afternoon (12), in a river located between the municipalities of Maraã and Japurá, 2,782 km away from Manaus.

According to information provided by local residents, the owner of the dredger [garimpo structure] and five other miners were shot dead by a “river pirate” gang after the theft of gold nuggets, money, cell phones and other objects from their dorms.

The river pirates only spared the three cooks who worked. Even so, they all had their heads hooded, and their hands and feet were tied all the time so as not to see the miners' execution.

Two miners were found in the river with their heads perforated with bullets and another four men, including the owner of the dredge, were tied up and dead in the forested area.

According to information from the mine where the slaughter took place, the gang's attack took place at dawn and all the gold miners were taken by surprise.

The gang fled in an aluminum speedboat, 40 HP engine, with a red awning, taking one of the assailants injured with an accidental shot fired by one of their own cronies.

Teams of civil police from the Interactive Police Stations of Japurá and Maraã, with the support of military police, are investigating the massacre that killed six men in the mines between the two municipalities.
