On the afternoon of 10th June 2021 in Nova Bandeirantes (Brazil), 4 men were shot dead by the Special Police Operations Battalion (BOPE).

Around 10 armed men were responsible for a bank robbery. They had taken hostages, used staff + customers as human shields, stolen money + fired their weapons. Around 100 officers were on duty to locate all the criminals. In a forest, 4 men were shot, dying later at the hospital. The rest of the gang are still to be located.

R$164,700, 2 pistols, a revolver, a hunting knife + camouflaged clothes were seized from the robbers.

3 of the 4 deceased have been identified.

35 year old R.d.O.B. was a known thief + had a criminal record for robbery.

37 year old M.G.d.O., who has an extensive criminal record for theft, illegal possession of a firearm + robbery. He had been released from prison in January 2019, but is suspected to have been involved in drug trafficking since his release.

40 year old L.M.M. had no criminal record. At first, 'L' was reported as having taken part in the bank robbery, but then it was said that he was in actual fact a hostage. The BOPE denied that he had been a hostage + had aided the criminals by supplying them with fuel. However, 'L's family are refuting the claims, stating that he was executed by mistake.

'L', married with 2 children, was the owner of a motorbike shop + on that fateful day, he had been in the area to bring fuel to miners.

A grieving friend of 'L's stated: "This week I cheered for BOPE in search of bank thugs, today I cry for a friend, hardworking, honest, family man, humble, very friendly to everyone, unjustly killed, hostage to bandits and now advertised as a bandit, causing his family suffer even more. May justice be done!"
