The uncle told him the ammunition in the weapon was weapon was "old" and "damaged". If that was the case why wasn't the damn shotgun unloaded and ammo thrown away?

Plus, the boyfriend was in the army. He should have known better to never pointed a weapon, loaded or unloaded, at anyone; whether in jest or otherwise.
