i'm thinking hurricane or tornado
the right side of the board is sawn
the part that went thru his face is jagged
it is not a new piece of lumber
it looks like some kind of fence maybe got ripped up and forced thru his face
or
possible they had to cut part of it to move him thus the freshly lookng sawn side
