The blood spurted up, and then showered down in the direction it went. If it was a clean slit throat, it would be in an arc of arterial spray. This is either a very nasty machete/axe, that hit the carotid in one shot, and just brutalized it, causing a massive spurt and gout of blood that sprayed everywhere, OR a gunshot wound that just about blew her head off. I vote for the gunshot.
