Biking Woman Hit by Tanker Truck
Colombia. 31 year-old Carmen Elena Álvarez Muñoz was exiting a roundabout onto the highway and failed to yield...or to notice the speeding tanker truck directly behind her as she did so. The force of the impact knocked her off of the motorcycle, though the truck dragged the bike itself another ten yards down the road before finally stopping. According to a combination of witness statements and the official accident report, Carmen flew off of the bike, narrowly avoiding being run over by the back wheels of the truck. Unfortunately for her, her helmet was dislodged and her head struck the asphalt with a significant measure of force, causing severe head trauma. Witnesses indicated that she did not die instantly, but landed on her back while bleeding heavily from the head. She was coughing up blood, so one person rolled her on her side in hopes of avoiding aspiration but was unable to provide any further aid. She was pronounced dead at the scene once emergency responders arrived. |
