Shortly after 2:30 a.m. on Sunday, May 29, 2016, Cicely Sargeant found her daughter, Kimberley Lovell, 27, dead with several wounds at the Alleyne's Land, Bayville, St Michael, Barbados, home Kimberley shared with her husband. Kimberley, a Queen Elizabeth Hospital nurse, was the mother of two young daughters. Later that morning, officers searching the property found Derek Lovell, 46, her husband and an orderly at the nearby Geriatric Hospital, hanging from a rafter in a shed in the yard. Acting Assistant Superintendent David Welch said police viewed the circumstances as an apparent murder-suicide, while neighbours said the couple had been experiencing marital problems. As Derek died at the scene, there was no charge or trial, and no coroner's finding has been reported. The murder-suicide description therefore remains a police and press characterization rather than an adjudicated conclusion. Kimberley's funeral took place on June 11, 2016.
