At dawn on January 7, 2017, Ary de Oliveira Mendes, 83, died after being attacked by three pit bulls on Rua Dezoito do Forte, in the Mutua neighbourhood of Sao Goncalo, Rio de Janeiro state, Brazil. The adult dog and two puppies had gotten out of a nearby home. Witnesses told police that the adult dog targeted a girl on the street, and Mendes intervened to shield her before the dogs attacked him. A second man was unable to stop the attack, and firefighters confirmed Mendes died at the scene. The owners later recaptured the puppies. Police opened an inquiry into the circumstances, but no charge against the dogs' owner was ever reported.

I wonder if they were his dogs, or if he was delivering/ setting up a food stall, and they attacked him? I hope they killed them. Poor dude- that has to be an agonizing, horrifying death for an old man...

According to a witness he tried to defend a smaller dog being attacked by the trio and therefore the dogs focuses their attention on him: another man tried to stop them, but no luck. The dogs owner was summoned by the police and will likely be charged with manslaughter by culpable negligence.
