Re: Alarm Magazine (Compilation)
Alarma! was the bomb in its day. I used to talk to their editor-in-chief on the phone regularly; he was a wonderful guy. I have about 300 issues of Alarma! in a box in my basement, largely because he sent me free copies every few months due to the difficulty of finding issues in my part of the States. Unfortunately, he died of a heart attack about two years ago and the company that owned the magazine opted to discontinue it after 50 years of publication rather than try to replace him. It was a terrible shame for his legacy, as he put an amazing amount of work and heart into keeping the title up and running for many years. He spoke often about his battles with the publisher and how hard he had to fight to stay in print year after year. But now he is dead, his primary photographers are also dead or retired except for Nelson Matus, who runs his own site but has taken to censoring and watermarking his images so badly that you can't even see them half the time. Probably the worst loss to the 'gore' community ever. :( |
