Akuressa Suicide Bombing Aftermath, Sri Lanka, March 2009
On March 10, 2009, a motorcycle-borne LTTE suicide bomber entered a Milad-un-Nabi procession by the Godapitiya Jumma Mosque in Akuressa, Sri Lanka's Matara District. The blast left 14 civilians dead and about 35 injured. The wounded included six government ministers who were taking part in the procession. Police subsequently identified the bomber through his remains. The roadside aftermath was documented first; material from later years was not necessarily connected to this attack.
