About 40 bodies bearing signs of torture were found in a hospital morgue at Harasta, on the outskirts of Damascus, on December 9, 2024. An opposition fighter discovered them after receiving a tip from a hospital worker. Some were recently dead and others were decomposed. The bodies were wrapped in white shrouds or white plastic bags and marked with handwritten numbers and, in some cases, names on cloth or adhesive tape.

A detainees' association said the dead were likely detainees from Saydnaya military prison and described Harasta as a collection point for detainees' bodies. Fourteen bodies remained unidentified in the morgue refrigerator the following day. The Syrian Red Crescent later moved the bodies to a hospital in Damascus for identification by families.

must've been frozen for quite a while. old corpses preserved by the cold are always extra creepy. specifically the way their eyes dry out and their faces stay lifelike in color, while their features get all messed up by gravity/physical pressure.
