55-Year-Old Woman's Suicide by Massive Hydrochloric Acid Ingestion in Spain
A 55-year-old woman died by suicide after ingesting a large quantity of hydrochloric acid sold in Spain under the trade name Salfumán. The caustic injury perforated her stomach, allowing acid to spill into the thoracic and abdominal cavities. The forensic autopsy documented chemical mediastinitis and peritonitis, with extensive coagulation necrosis affecting essentially all of the internal organs. The examination included the opened thorax and abdomen and the excised tongue, glottis, larynx, esophagus and stomach. |
