54 Year Old Man Dies After Electric Shock
On the afternoon of Friday (18) a 54-year-old man suffered an electric shock when trying to access a grid on a farm in the countryside. According to the Fire Department, the victim was trying to reach the power cord without authorization and proper equipment and ended up getting an electric shock of 13,800 volts over which entered the arm and left the leg of the man. The victim was on a pole about 12 meters high , the network was turned off by CEMIG and the man was sent with 2nd and 3rd degree burns by the Mobile Emergency Service (SAMU) to the city hospital, but died during the early hours of Saturday (19).

The spark from your hand to a door knob is about 50,000 volts. But a spark like that has an extremely low current. For a given amount of power, a higher voltage reduces the current. It's the current that toasted the guy, not the voltage. But for news reporting 13,800 volts sounds more deadly than 30 amps does. |
