It was probably a M2 in .50 cal rather than a sniper round. The round does phenomenal damage to a human body (and light armor, brick walls, mud walls, etc., especially when a bad guy is behind them).

Damn, that red mud, humidity, and temps took a while to adjust to. I still have red mud in BDUs and the stitching of my boots.

Not even close, the 50AE is a pistol magnum cartridge (1600 ft-lbs/2200 J muzzle energy) vs. .50 BMG (14,895 ft-lbs20,195 J muzzle energy). The only thing they have in common is the diameter of the bullet.

I agree that a .50 bmg round would have destroyed quite a bit more of the body than those pictures. The seat would be disintegrated too. I'm doubtful that was a .50 bmg. It does some amazing damage.
