I think it happens more then we think. Unfortunately no one sober was in the group. I remember I was bombed and decided to swim to Ireland since I couldn't afford the flight. I was joined by another drunken retard. Fortunately my buddy John (now St. John) got help and got us out. |

Well, alcohol adversely affects one's judgment, so I'd say they likely entered a portion of water with a strong undertow not considered. A river in my area has just that characteristic: fairly safe in most places but extremely dangerous in others while the surface of the water appears fine in both instances. Classic (and lethal) example of why one should be familiar with one's environment.
