Re: 3 Teenagers on a Bicycle on Highway Runover by a Truck

I don't know how they do it in Brazil, but it looks to me like they were entering the freeway the wrong way on an exit ramp. Played chicken with a truck.
I have never seen a left-hand driving country with left exit ramps on freeways. its usually on the right side. i think its a one lane per direction road, the bikers are in the right lane (granted they merged improperly). The truck is in the wrong lane. And he also made an overtaking move in a blind curve for him.

Besides, I also have never seen a freeway in any country with no island/barriers in between opposite lanes.

I agree, after watching the video, it appears both trucks were traveling on a same direction, two lane highway. The boys appear to have taken the wrong exit onto oncoming traffic.

Re: 3 Teenagers on a Bicycle on Highway Runover by a Truck

I stand corrected. There are left freeway exit ramps.

But still, i viewed the whole BR 116 from end to end and its a 1 sometimes 2 lanes per direction two way road. not what we will call a free way where i'm from though. Here, it will be called a national road or main thoroughfare. most freeways here are private owned by road developers, with toll fees and toll barriers and all these freeways have island of wide patches of grass between opposing direction or sometimes concrete barriers.

So i still think the kids are in the right direction. except they do not know how to merge properly or how to observe traffic conditions before entering an intersection.

it's a highway http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BR-116 and in the second video you see the traffic signs can only be viewed from the highway telling it's an exit ramp. truck was overtaking and boys were going a bit downhill and didn't know how to stop. they have no business being on a highway anyway riding a bicycle.

There are NO opposite lanes on that road. They are all the same direction. The trucks were going the correct direction. The kids on the bike entered the freeway on the wrong way of an exit ramp. You can even see the yellow turn arrows pointing up the exit ramp in the opposite direction that the kids were riding.
