On June 10, 2016, a 28-year-old American man volunteering as a teacher in Phnom Penh died when he slipped and fell in his bathroom. He was living with other volunteers at a home. A friend reported that he died at once from the fall.

Upon learning of the death, the owner of the house contacted the police. When the authorities arrived, they confirmed the victim had slipped and fallen in the bathroom. After finishing the inspection of the body, the victim was taken to the Russian hospital mortuary.

Looking at his reddit profile, he was a big time heroin addict. Couple of his posts:

"So I just moved to Cambodia after having a pretty rough habit. Family and friends all think I'm gonna get strung out here all over again... Thing is, heroin isn't so easy to come by. I saw some once but the dude w it was this faggy Aussie I didn't wanna kick it with and figured if he could find it it couldn't be hard. I've been trying since then to no avail. Codiene is otc as well as klonopin, Xanax and Valium.... And even ketamine in the right pharmacy. Weed is everywhere. Should I just count my blessings and eat codiene and benzos which are the only things that let me sleep at night or should I be persistent and keep trying to find that elusive golden triangle pure dope."

His last post:

"found some shit... pricey as fuck but by far the BEST dope I've ever seen in my life. i was certain i was being ripped off, but just decided to take the "plunge" and as soon as that plunger pushed in I was out Woke up on my bathroom floor like 3 hours later."

I think he fell after shooting up heroin, but there’s no mention of drugs in the article.

Probably was an OD because his tolerance was low. His family may be relieved at this point bc he isn't suffering and putting them on edge any more. Opiate epidemic is no joke.

Doesn't look like that's what he was doing when he fell here though or the stuff would have been nearby. They covered him with his shorts so he was naked from waist down. Cardiac arrest from drug use?

I think maybe his friends hid the drugs before the police arrived.

There is no such thing as a opiate epidemic. This is entirely a media fiction. The statistics on overdose deaths are irrelevant here since it is a conceptual issue. An epidemic is a widespread outbreak of a DISEASE. Self inflicted behavior is not a disease. Describing it as such is nothing more than a pathetic, whining attempt to avoid blaming people for their voluntary destructive behaviors. Yes, at some point it can get beyond voluntary for the addict, but it begins there in all cases.

It may start voluntarily, but it rarely stays that way. Honestly though its not the drug that causes most of the problems, but the prohibition. People od because there is no industry regulations in the black market resulting in a wide variety of quality and potency.

All the violence stems from the price which is artificially inflated on account of prohibition. Legal heroin wouldn't be any more expensive than beer/alcohol and even the homeless can afford to be addicted to that.
