I don't see a clear entry or exit wound, and there doesn't even seem to be much blood on the ground. It must not have been a very powerful gun, especially since she didn't die instantly.

You're right about that. Probably .22 caliber gun or something similar, doesn't leave any carnage after the shot, but makes a huge mess out of the brain.

If it entered her brain she was probably brain dead after being shot, with her brain stem keeping her body functions going for a while afterwards.
