23 year old Malaysian woman hung herself to death on some sort of electrical equipment in a field in Indonesia. Police originally worried that it may have been murder. Why? Because her eyes were closed and her tongue was not protruding. Seriously, these fuckin Indonesian cops. They consistently seem to think that if the tongue doesn't pass the teeth and the eyes aren't bugged out like Marty Feldman, it has to be a murder staged as a hanging.

Anyway, after further forensics and subsequent scene investigation, they confirmed that she had expressed suicidal notions to a family member. Further, her motorcycle was discovered parked near to the death site. No signs of external violence could be ascertained. Also, despite the facepalm-worthy observations about tongues and eyeballs, forensics determined that the nature of the petechiae on her body and the presence of urine and feces in her drawers were consistent with a death by hanging.

I know I am no expert. Most of my experience with death scenes comes from this site and from filing autopsy reports. So I really have no place to judge professional law enforcement/forensic personnel of any country. But goddam...what does it take to be a cop in Indonesia? Two weeks of night school?

Nah. That's usually the Thais. Indonesians and Malaysians are a bit more circumspect for the most part. At least with the photographs.

Contrary-wise, I am always surprised at the level of crime scene information (even if laden with odd supposition and misunderstandings) that police report to the newspapers there. In most countries, east or west, you get a name, a location, age, and a few very broad scene details about these suicides and murders. But in Indonesia and Malaysia, they'll go on at length (and in explicit detail) about what the victim was wearing, what was in their stomach during the autopsy, if there was semen on their clothes, and whether or not they shit themselves while dying.

Wow, looks like her feet were almost touching the ground in that second picture. Makes me wonder how many people failed by making their rope/noose of choice too long? & if so, were they relieved or how many just tried it again, after adjustments?
