I've seen these pics a few times over the years. I think the main story that seemed to go along with them was that she was in a car and crashed into the beauty spot. That's all I got, sorry.

She was a university student in Hong Kong. In her final year and months away from graduation. It was a suicide. Apparently she had a boyfriend in Amsterdam which her parents objected to. The relationship later soured and on the day she went missing she told her parents she was going to Amsterdam to meet her boyfriend, presumably to "fix" their relationship.
