According to the wikipedia article, the outside temperature in that summer raised above 35 degrees celsius (95F). The lorry's door was damaged on the insides which makes it obvious that the people tried to open them in panic. 59 men, 8 women and 4 children died on 6x2.15=13 squaremeters... Investigators learnt that the people had not died in the place where the lorry was found but somewhere on the long way through eastern europe. When the traffickers realized that the refugees were dead, they left the lorry and got away. There is now a trial against them but punishment won't be severe enough because this is "only" manslaughter. According to another article, public transport calculates a passenger with 0,25 squaremeters (4 passengers per squaremeter); 0,125 in the rush hour. This is 8 passengers on a square of about 3 by 3 foot! Just imagine Tokyo subway at 6:30PM. That would be an absolute maximum of 104 people in that lorry - given windows, air conditioning and the possibility to leave modern busses if you wish. There were about 5 people per 3x3 foot square in that lorry. I cannot imagine the heat the smell the crying children. Picture is taken at a temporary memorial by the Green Party in Innsbruck. Square on the ground is 13m2. There are 71 pairs of shoes in it. Writing says: "Europes shame. No human is illegal" - "End the carnage"  |

The greens obviously want to welcome every and any scumbag, loser, scroungers or layabout into Europe with open arms. They think this sort of smuggling should never need to happen if we turned Europe into a massive welfare system by opening all borders. They are fucking deluded! |
