Re: 2 Teenagers, 1 Adult Dead in Early Morning Killings
http://drinkingage.procon.org/view.r...ourceID=002591 Vedderman, I have only the deepest respect for you, Sir, but in this case I don't think we're going to see eye to eye. "The minimum age for marriages is 18 years for men and 16 years for women. Parental authorization, or that of a guardian, is required if the bride or groom is a minor (under 21 years old.)" brazil.usembassy.gov › mobile › marriag... So, an 18 year old man could fuck your 14 year old daughter, get her pregnant, but be to young to marry her and take responsibility for his new family? So whose responsibility is it to take care of that baby while you're trying to get your daughter through school so she stands at least a little bit of a chance at life? Or is this why we see too many stories of babies thrown away like trash in Brazil? Are you going to tell them to "relax"? They can't-they're dead because some 14 year old kid wanted to go to a Justin Bieber concert rather than stay home and be a responsible parent, and the father is out fucking 6 other 14 year olds. I'm sorry, but irreguardless of what country I lived in, if I came home to find a man fucking my 14 year old daughter he'd find the barrel of my gun planted deeply up his ass and the trigger promptly pulled. They are children-not adults. And 4 years at that age is a really big difference no matter how you slice it. To think that a 14 year old girl is ready for sex shows a gross distortion of the idea of what "mature" means. |

Re: 2 Teenagers, 1 Adult Dead in Early Morning Killings
I see your point-but I also see in you a man who has his shit together. You fell in love, you married, and you're both happy. But let's be honest-many men aren't thinking of serious relationships when it comes to a girl so young. |

Re: 2 Teenagers, 1 Adult Dead in Early Morning Killings
Like you said, we'll just have to agree to disagree here. 14 is legal for sexual consent in a large portion of the world. Cultures differ from region to region. In some of these places, 14 year olds are working full-time jobs in order to support families or themselves. The cultural standard for 'maturity' (sexual or otherwise) is heavily influenced by many different factors. too many for me to even begin to pass snap judgments on situations I know very little about, like the one depicted in this thread. I know 25 year olds with less maturity than some 15 year olds I have known. Sexually or otherwise. What I do know is that I was sexually active in high school 25 years ago. So were many people that I knew. Most of us were anywhere between 14 and 18 at the time. Some were 'ready' for it. Some weren't. But all of the parents gasping and sputtering in horror and threatening felony assault or homicide couldn't even begin to slow it down. And that was in a small, predominantly Catholic town in the US. It is FAR more culturally acceptable in many other countries for such liaisons to occur. But that doesn't really matter. It occurs everywhere. It always has. It always will. It is normal and natural. You want to launch a crusade about 30 year old dudes diddling 12 year old girls in the dark, feel free. I'm right beside you on that. But two physically mature, consenting adolescents close enough in age to attend the same secondary school? Pffft. Good luck. You can huff and puff with all the righteous indignation you can muster and it isn't going to change a thing. Teenage kids are gonna have sex with teenage kids. 14, 16, 18...it's all just arbitrary fucking numbers in very close proximity. Even if a participant on one end of the spectrum is BARELY a legally-qualified 'adult' in some cultures, mentally and psychologically and emotionally there is faaaaaaaaaaaaaaar less difference between 14 and 16 or 14 and 18 than you seem inclined to believe. Anyway, you believe how you want. But if you're going to express your beliefs in the form of righteous indignation on a public forum, then you have to expect people to point out that they're silly, unrealistic, and based on emotional reaction rather than rational thought. I'm not even personally judging you for your opinions. Like I said, you believe what you want. But if you honestly think that this sort of thing (consenting 18/14) is rare in ANY culture, then you must have spent your formative years in a nunnery. |

Re: 2 Teenagers, 1 Adult Dead in Early Morning Killings
I tip my hat to you, sir, your point was well made. I guess I just find it sad that we live in a world where kids don't have the time or chance to be kids. There is time for sex, marriage, drinking-whatever, but precious little time to be ignorantly, blissfully innocent... |

Hormones decide when that ignorance and blissful innocence ends - not the number on the birthday cake. 14 is a common time for sexual exploration to have begun. Hell, even 12 is quite common. Human beings have the urge to start reproducing at an earlier age than law allowances. Law is not biology. |

Re: 2 Teenagers, 1 Adult Dead in Early Morning Killings
True, but I recall seeing a thread on here about a 13 or 14 year old girl shot and killed because she was having an affair with a married man in his late 30's-early 40's. That's not sexual exploration-that's flat-out perversion. |

Re: 2 Teenagers, 1 Adult Dead in Early Morning Killings
I agree wholeheartedly on a fundamental level. Emphatically so. One of half a thousand reasons why the wife and I have chosen to eschew procreation. But it doesn't alter the intrinsic truths of biology and reality. It is, alas, hopeless romanticism and, I suspect, wistful yearning for the perceived shortness of our own childhoods. And I make a point, as often as I can, to avoid any trappings of hopeless romanticism on this particular website. |

Re: 2 Teenagers, 1 Adult Dead in Early Morning Killings
Don't know why I'm sharing this here but I was very sexually precocious and at 14 I did a lot of "exploration" with a man who was 34 (a few months younger than my mom, actually). I was VERY ready and enjoyed it immensely. Now as a mom with 2 teen girls I don't honestly know how I would react if they did the same as me....??? (and my parents knew nothing or they'd have had him arrested)
