You have no idea what sort of circumstances led to this kids criminal career. He may have had a very understandable reason for whatever theft he committed, but even if that's not the case, 19 is still fucking kid.

We all do dumb shit as hormone addled teenagers, the difference is not everyone gets caught. Most people grow out of it. He paid his due's and there's nothing to say he couldn't have straightened his life out this time around.

Also this 'leave' everyone keeps asking about, it's called a furlough, and there are some correctional institutions that participate in them if a prisoner has been assessed as an extremely low risk case with no history of violence. They are still watched and are only allowed to roam in very select areas, also called 'house arrest'. It's like testing the waters before the real deal
