Re: 18 Year-old Girl Committed Suicide by Hanging After Breaking Up with BF.
Newsflash: mental illness is correlated with chemical imbalance. Learn the difference between causation and correlation, a basic tenet of science. It is impossible to determine, from the correlation of A with B whether (1) any causal relationship exists between them, or (2) the direction of any causal relationship that may exist. In the present case, as far as anyone can determine, chemical imbalance may be a result, not a cause of mental aberrations. It is only on purely materialistic metaphysical premises (not empirical scientific research) that causal relations are assumed to run exclusively from the physical to the mental, not vice versa. Practicing physicians know well that they often run from the mental to the physical.

For fuck's sake. Perhaps the term "caused by" was ill used in my post. Thank you for pointing out my stupidity. I think you get what I was inferring. Nice post.

Re: 18 Year-old Girl Committed Suicide by Hanging After Breaking Up with BF.
Actually, it's not clear to me what you were inferring. To label something as a "mental illness" in the current psychological and sociological climate is often a technique used to avoid attributing moral responsibility to the actions of those so labeled. If this is what you were inferring, then I disagree. If it is the case, in any particular instance, that the attitudes of a person are the cause of a physiological change (e.g. in brain chemistry) then merely pointing out the physiological results does not exculpate that person from moral accountability. I don't say that this is what you were inferring, but I have no way of knowing from your comments. I didn't intend my comments to be insulting, nor did I imply any stupidity on your part.

Re: 18 Year-old Girl Committed Suicide by Hanging After Breaking Up with BF.
It's my inference that a person committing suicide is suffering a mental illness. Brain chemistry plays a part in that. It's 2am here and that is about all I can respond with at this hour :)
