14 Bodies Found in West African Migrant Boat Adrift off Dominican Republic
A wooden craft was seen adrift near Rio San Juan on August 6, 2024, after fishermen encountered it off the northern coast of the Dominican Republic in Maria Trinidad Sanchez province. Dominican Navy personnel went aboard and recovered 14 mostly skeletonized corpses. Authorities also collected approximately 60 backpacks, around 20 mobile phones, geolocation equipment and 12 packets containing material thought to be cocaine or heroin. Identification papers issued by Senegal were present, while the Navy said documents from Mauritania were found as well. The bodies were landed in the La Cantera beach sector, then transported to INACIF in Santiago for forensic examination. Estimates of the location varied, with one report giving about 10 nautical miles from land and reports in the Dominican Republic giving 30. No names for the victims appeared in available accounts. Investigators compared dental charts and performed DNA analysis, although no antemortem material was available. To obtain those records, the Attorney General's office submitted a request involving INTERPOL to Mali, Mauritania and Senegal. One of the deceased was reportedly approximately 18 years old. This was not a case of people cast away by a wreck; the craft remained whole while carrying the dead. During 2021, at least seven vessels originating in northwest Africa were reported to have reached Brazil and the Caribbean with corpses on board. |

Re: 14 Bodies Found in West African Migrant Boat Adrift off Dominican Republic
A couple of skeletonized corpses were found on a boat which was found on the coast of María Trinidad Sánchez in the Dominican Republic. Identity documents found on the boat indicated that the bones belonged to citizens from Senegal and Mauritania. The boat was 40ft in length, when most boats which transport immigrants to the Dominican Republic rarely exceed 30ft. The circumstances of the finding remain under investigation, but it is possible that the boat was diverted from its intended location by inclement weather. |

Amazing find! That’s a real story right there. Maybe even a few. Great “death” scenes with all of the skeletons in clothes. Wow! |

One by one they roasted & starved at sea. A romantic novel/love story could be written about this.

It was only supposed to be a "three hour tour..." (This is for the extremely old among us, people who lived back when the world only existed in black & white ...) "A corpse is a corpse of course of course, unless of course that corpse happens to be the wonderful Mr Dead." Apologies to all you millenials who will have no idea WTF I am talking about. |
