It is common for people to piss and shit themselves upon death. I guess everything just relaxes when you die

It does happen but not in every death. On average, only about one person in ten has urinated or defecated prior to death. Urination can occur simply because there is enough time for the body to relax enough to urinate before it shuts down. This elimination isn’t necessarily indicative of a full bladder. Someone who has drank heavily and has been passed out for several hours prior to death may in fact have several hundred cubic centimeters of urine built up in their bladder (this amount is often documented at autopsy).

Defecation may not occur until after the death has occurred—although the process of elimination isn’t a voluntary movement on the part of the deceased. Moving a body around while examining it or attempting to remove it from a scene can cause fecal matter to exude from the individual. In this respect, the human body acts similarly to a tube of toothpaste as the bowels are compressed.

As a side note, gas that has built up in the bowels is also eliminated as the body is moved or examined. This elimination typically occurs without an audible sound.

Just a side note, the 1-in-10 figure there refers to deaths on the whole. It isn't particularly common in 'natural' deaths. The incidence rate of peri/post mortem urination rises significantly in violent deaths (car accidents, shootings, stabbings, stranglings, etc), however, especially asphyxiation-related deaths where the bladder releases in a strong majority of cases.

Here's a copy/paste of an article summary from a French medical journal I found a year or two ago. Translation is mine with Google help, so forgive awkwardness in the sentences:

Autopsy cases of victims over 10 years of age in which the cause of death was asphyxia due to constriction of the neck were collected from four medical schools during recent 10 years. We picked up 132 cases which reported urine volume in the bladder in each autopsy report. Classifying the means in the cases, 83 were caused by ligature strangulation (strangulation group), 17 were by manual strangulation (throttling group), 12 were by hanging (hanging group), and 20 were by unknown or mixed methods (other group). The number of female was more than that of male in each group, especially all but one were females in throttling group. The majority of 46 females in strangulation group were under 50 ml in the bladder. On the contrary, about a half of 37 males were over 50 ml. In the other three groups, most of both males and females were under 50 ml in the bladder. Of all cases, the cases with over 200 ml were 14 (8 males and 6 females), and 11 out of those were in strangulation group, 2 in hanging and 1 in other. In 42 of 132 cases information about the presence or absence of urinary incontinence was obtained through police. Almost all cases (38 of 42) showed urinary incontinence at the death scene. Eighteen of 38 had empty bladder (17 females and 1 male). The rest of the 20 cases, however, did not have empty bladders though some degree of urinary incontinence was noted.

Indeed, it even made one of the eyes pop out.
Had a friend that was 13 at the time that hanged himself die to his father not giving him permission to attend a school dance. Such an impulsive act for such a small thing. It sucks
