13 People, Incl. Women and Baby, Killed on Good Friday at Mexican Family Party
At least 13 people have reportedly been killed and more injured after multiple gunmen opened fire at a party hall in, Veracruz, southeast Mexico. A 1-year-old baby (edit out from pics) is among those killed, as well as 5 women and 7 men. Five further victims were taken to an area hospital with non life-threatening injuries. The attack happened just after 9pm local time. A motive for the mass shooting was not immediately known. Witnesses told they were looking for someone named "El Becky' -- the owner of a local bar -- before opening fire. The state’s Secretary of Public Security said: “Federal and state forces have launched a strong search and capture operation for those responsible for the massacre. Veracruz is plagued with organised crime and bloody gun battles frequently erupt between rival drug gangs. Survivors described how the gunmen forced their victims to look them in the face before shooting them. "They told them to turn around to see them, to see them while they were killing them," said one women who asked not to be identified. "I felt the gun at my head ... the guy pointed it at me but didn't shoot," she added, dressed a colorful traditional Mexican costume. Another young woman, whose brother was murdered, said: "There were about six of them. Even if you had a baby in your arms, they still shot you." Gang-linked hitmen frequently carry out public assassinations in Mexico, but more than 40,000 people are also registered as "missing" -- likely murdered and buried somewhere remotely. More than a quarter of a million people have been killed since 2006 when the government of then-president Felipe Calderon launched a crackdown on drug traffickers.       |

I think, for this kind of indiscriminate slaughter, what we call a "motive" is really the excuse to go out be savage killers for the pleasure and power derived from bloodlust fulfilled. Bloodlust is the true motive.
