Ligers (2 new videos added 4th may 2012)
The liger is a hybrid cross between a male lion and a female tiger (not to be confused with a Tigon which is a cross of a male tiger and female lion). It is the largest of all extant felines. The males of either Liger or Tigon species are infertile. Further breeding has been caried out: male tiger and female tigon ---> ti-tigon male tiger and female liger ---> ti-liger male lion and female tigon ---> li-tigon male lion and female liger ---> li-liger · |

Re: Ligers (2 new videos added 4th may 2012)
![]() "yeah, it's pretty much my favorite animal" lmao! What I think is amazing about this animal is that genetically, its growth is unchecked. When lions breed, the female contributes the growth-inhibiting genes. But when tigers breed, it is the male who contributes this. So when a male lion and female tiger produce offspring, neither parent's genes inhibit the growth of the ligers. So it pretty much grows until death when it's structure cannot support any more growth! When a male tiger and female lion breed, both contribute a growth-inhibiting gene to the offspring, which is why the tigon is usually smaller than both parents. btw, the woman sitting on that beast's back is fuckin nuts |
