Re: Boat Missile Firing Goes Wrong
It was only the back of the rear section that blew off and partially landed on the deck of the ship, the front 2/3rd of the missile was blown overboard and into the sea, so they were lucky. Even then though, it could have gone bottoms up cause it seemed to be a solid fueled missile which stays together in larger and smaller chunks in a case like this, instead of liquid fuel which just errupts in a large ball of fire and the rises skywards. If any of the solid fuel in the front 2/3rds of the missile would have been ignited by the misfire it would have possibly ignited the warhead even though the it was blown overboard and into the sea. The solid fuel has it's own oxygen source and would continue to burn underwater, possibly igniting the primary explosive of the warheads igniter and causing to detonate the warhead underwater blown away a large chunk of the hull and sinking the vessel. I wonder which primitive navy this misfire happened on, cause I've never heared of such accidents happening other than in second and third world country navies who still use old surplus missiles dumped by modern countries due to old age.
