Re: Doctor Brands The Initials Of His Alma Mater Into A Woman's Uterus!
She was having a hysterectomy and the uterus was to be removed and thrown away. It is a law that you have to mark the exact body part that surgery is to be performed on and then be to verified by all attending the surgery so as not to remove the wrong body part. This includes teeth, organs, appendages, everything. He was probably marking the organ to be removed and used a cute symbol mark it before removal just for the hell of it. When I worked in the dental office, we would mark the teeth with smiley faces or initials before they were extracted, just out of boredom.......

Re: Doctor Brands The Initials Of His Alma Mater Into A Woman's Uterus!
LOUISVILLE, Kentucky -- A surgeon being sued for branding a patient's uterus with the initials of his alma mater -- the University of Kentucky -- defended his actions Tuesday as a routine part of a hysterectomy. Dr. Michael Guiler told ABC's Good Morning, America and NBC's Today that marking the uterus gives doctors a point of reference before it is removed. "It is very important to be able to identify left from right, so it has to be an asymmetrical mark repetitive and identifiable to the surgeon," said Guiler, who used a cauterizing instrument to brand "UK" on Stephanie Means' uterus. "The University of Kentucky gave me my training, my medical school training, my residency training, and I'm very proud of that and I certainly did not mean that to be demeaning in any way," Guiler said. "I'm always respectful to my patients and respectful to all the tissues that we remove from a woman." Means filed a lawsuit last week, claiming she suffered emotional distress after viewing a videotape of last year's operation. She and her husband are seeking unspecified damages. Guiler said that before surgery, patients are informed about the procedure, how it is performed and about the need to mark the uterus. But he said the type of marking was not previously discussed. Kim Alumbaugh, chairwoman of the Kentucky chapter of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, said some surgeons rely on stitches, burn marks or other identifiers before removing an organ. Alumbaugh declined to comment on the specifics of the lawsuit but said the state medical licensing board will probably review the case. "A situation like this, where there is some controversy, will be reviewed, and rightly so, to evaluate it for appropriate medical procedure," she said. "In any surgical procedure, the dignity of the patient must be respected." |

There are some okay doc's out there, but most are cocky, ignorant, disrespectful assholes who could care less about their patients or anyone they consider to be below them. |

Re: Doctor Brands The Initials Of His Alma Mater Into A Woman's Uterus!
where is it you have seen a uterus being marked for removal? and it isnt usually thrown away it is sent to the labs for testing ...... ive never seen one marked before being removed and ive scrubbed for a few cases. The marking you are on about is usually limbs or the siteand side of the operation which you are correct about and is done by law to prevent wrong site surgery and where i work its usually just a arrow indicating site and side for surgery.
