Brain Maggots Ummm
http://www.snopes.com/photos/medical/maggots.asp A set of photos showing a man whose brain allegedly became infested with maggots (or "worms") as a result of letting an ingrown hair go untreated (or eating sushi, depending on version) |

Re: Brain Maggots Ummm
You can get worms from bad sushi, but they're not maggots. Her eyes look like she's Asian. There was something a week or so ago (here?) about a surgeon removing a single worm from a patient's brain stem. They'd thought from the imaging that it was a tumor. I don't think an infection from an ingrown hair would penetrate the skull. |

Re: Brain Maggots Ummm
There's absolutely no way this woman could have gotten a maggot/work infection by eatting sushi.... The brain is protected by a blood brain barrier. It's a barrier that prevents virtually all large and charged molecules/organisms from passing from the blood to the brain. There's no way in hell a maggot egg can pass through this barrier. For reference: Herpes encephalitis is a pathogen that CAN SOMETIMES (IE: extreamly rarely), pass through the blood brain barrier. It is a virus, and is a great deal smaller than an egg. |
