Re: Guy in Tiny Car Escapes After Confrontation About Meeting 15 Yo Girl
Indeed. I am utterly disgusted by the "teens are children" mentality of ageist bigots/cultural imperialists, a piece of nonsense which I have ignored my entire life. In most of the non-western world it is realistically recognized that sexually mature human beings are legitimate candidates for romantic interest. There is no other mammalian species on the planet which is oblivious to this obvious reality.

Ephebophile. Please note that it is entirely a descriptive term with no pathological implications (i. e., for those not familiar with the terminology of professional psychologists, this means that there is no evaluative connotation - no suggestion that there is anything wrong with someone who has such a preference. In this respect it is no different from a preference for blondes)

philovan of course you would show up here. i won’t lie there is some rationality to your arguments but isn’t it more morally upright to be with someone you’re own age who has gone through similar stages of life then someone who is so much younger and has much to learn. You could hurt their development by having sexually charged interactions with them. As well as ruin their perceived innocence. We aren’t living in 1800 what was acceptable then isn’t the same standards upheld today. |

Re: Guy in Tiny Car Escapes After Confrontation About Meeting 15 Yo Girl
But we never saw Roger's girl, so for all you know, she might have not been a 'sexually mature human being'. So your point is flawed. Legally it is also flawed. You need to keep things simple in society, that is why we have age restrictions in the developed world. Morally it is flawed. My ex was groomed from 14 and it messed her up. Her body was sexually mature, maybe, and certain men took that the way you are doing. But her mind was not. It ruined her childhood and destroyed her ability to be an adult, because she wasn't ready. The individual's desires need to be constantly weighed against what is the right course of action. I could murder all my male rivals and enslave all the women to ensure the survival of my genes, but it wouldn't be worth the damage done, so I don't. It is simply not important enough to me. |

Re: Guy in Tiny Car Escapes After Confrontation About Meeting 15 Yo Girl
Not sure where you're from but you left out a big part of the definition: "prepubescent" children. If you don't know what that means, look it up. No, 15 (in the above incident) is not a "prepubescent child." There is a reason those two words go together. No one who has passed through puberty to sexual maturity is a "child" anymore. It is only an inane western convention which regards them as such. Most of the rest of the world recognizes the physical reality. Hence age of consents in the lower teens are found globally. For that matter even in the USA the age of consent is 16 in more than half the states. |

Re: Guy in Tiny Car Escapes After Confrontation About Meeting 15 Yo Girl
Your last sentence shows the conventional nature of the matter. There are no moral grounds for preferring the practices of one era over those of another and "later is better" is hardly a rational rule. Your other argument is also flawed. There is no particular reason (and certainly no moral reason) to restrict relationships via age stratification. Being the older person in a relationship who has passed through stages of life not yet experienced by a friend or partner, one can use that experience to guide and help the younger person in many ways. Thus, one can help their development. I don't speak from a merely theoretical perspective here, as I have practiced what I preach for over half a century. In the end it is how you treat people, not how they differ from you with respect to age or any other factor. Treat them with kindness, consideration, and respect and you will have good, mutually beneficial relationships. This is true if you are in a non-romantic friendship or in a potential courtship relation. As far as sex is concerned, as an orthodox Christian I hold that it is for marriage, period. |

Re: Guy in Tiny Car Escapes After Confrontation About Meeting 15 Yo Girl
It would be a rare case for a 15 year old to be prepubescent, a medical fluke. "Keep it simple" - one rule for everyone - is a good recipe for encouraging totalitarianism. Just march along in accordance with the wisdom of the almighty state. I'm sorry for what happened to your ex. Note that nothing I say here in any way sanctions the conduct of creeps like this "Roger" who was merely out to "score" at some poor girl's expense. As I said in reply to another post, it is all about how you treat people with whom you engage. When I was in my late 30's I met a neighbor girl who had just turned 14. The two of us "clicked" from the beginning. I loved her and did a lot of things for and with her, including giving her her first car when she went off to college. That is almost 40 years ago, and she is now my best friend and my son's godmother. Of course (as you know from other posts) I met my then future wife when she was 19 and I was 50. Treat people decently, not as objects with which to gratify your own lusts and desires, and it makes no difference how old you or they are. |
