Re: Aircraft Carrier Oops
Actually that F15 is waiting to launch. The safety part that stops the missle from being fired is a static discharge loop type thing. If the pilot has that disconnected when the fuel hose is connected or anything else connected to the deck, static electricity charges the aircraft. This leads to a missle being launched from the aircraft. For a better understanding search 'the USS forrestal disaster' and you will see how static electricty caused the same thing to happen.

Re: Aircraft Carrier Oops
:P Just to be a bitch; The F-15N was a carrier-capable variant proposed in the early 1970s to the U.S. Navy as an alternative to the heavier and, at the time, considered as "riskier" technology program: F-14 Tomcat. The F-15N-PHX was another proposed naval version capable of carrying the AIM-54 Phoenix missile. These featured folding wingtips, reinforced landing gear and a stronger tail hook for shipboard operation. : D |
