Re: Woman in Her Coffin - Ready for Funeral

Not bad but they did overkill with stuffing the nose. Hell that's something that I normally don't do.
They could have done a better job setting and sealing her mouth, too. Not the best job there.

Re: Woman in Her Coffin - Ready for Funeral

Almost looks like her face was reconstructed. I'm wondering if that's a bruise on her forehead or just something else. Also, why do they stuff the nose like that? I thought it would be to give it it's structure back after it's been caved in via blunt trama or something.. or is it for protecting viewers from the smell inside?

Re: Woman in Her Coffin - Ready for Funeral

On almost every image from South America I have seen, the nose is stuffed. I guess it is to prevent insects to get into the corpse that way.

The famous Orozco video gives you a great idea of how corpses are prepared in South America. I am sure some clips from it are posted in the video section (there is a very well known clip of a woman, who has her scull stuffed with old newspapers, which I am almost sure, I have seen here.)

There is also a scene where Orozco prepares a small baby - and even there the nose is stuffed.

The video is far to big to post, but if some of the mods know that specific scenes are missed on DR, I am willing to find them and post them, as I have the whole movie.

You could be right about preserving the structure. They typically do pack the nose here, but the packing should be stuffed wayyyyy up, almost to the sinus openings. It should for sure not be visible to those viewing the body. Like Mort999 said, it could be thicker packing b/c of the bugs down there, or for seepage if they're not embalmed (but even if the body is embalmed, there could be seepage. There are awful stories out there, I'll try to hunt one down.)

Mort999, are you in the US?

Re: Woman in Her Coffin - Ready for Funeral

Every time I see a coffin image I am glad that I decided to donate my organs and be cremated. I just think it is such a morbid practice.

I am going to have a real Irish wake with drinking, dancing, and plenty of photos and videos of happy times.
