Re: Autopsy of Young Female Who Ingested Insecticide
What country was this from? I was pretty shocked they didn’t make a “Y” incision. Strange. It looked more like a bad horror movie pulling her guts out than a medical autopsy. |

Re: Autopsy of Young Female Who Ingested Insecticide
There is actually 3 different types of incisions utilized in different parts of the world, for autopsies. (1) The "standard Y" incision that we are used to seeing in the USA that runs from the shoulders to the pubic bone. (2) the "modified Y" incision that runs from both sides of the cervical area/ neck to the pubic bone. (3) then the "I" incision....which is what is being shown in this video, from the midline down to the pubic bone. The I incision is generally used for autopsies where the coroner is trying to keep contagion to a minimum. With Covid-19 still at an all time high, especially in certain countries & areas of these countries....I can see where this I incision would be used. At a guess, the police or family advised the coroner that this was a suicide & by what method (poisoning), maybe even supplying photos of the crime scene or even a suicide note. So all the coroner is really going through is the formalities of taking the smallest amounts of tissues, knowing full & well that this was a poisoning....& making the only the lowest profile incision....the I incision & taking only the smallest amount of necessary tissues to prove this....spleen, stomach, etc. This is just a guess, but I am thinking this may be somewhere in India, especially where the mode of death has already been established. The autopsy is honestly just a formality, as proof for their record as to how the person died.....utilizing that "I" incision, thus keeping spray, castoff & contagion at an all time low, if possible. Also the I incision has been widely used in India since Covid-19 hit around December 2019. |

Re: Autopsy of Young Female Who Ingested Insecticide
Thank you. Very informative. I’ve participated in 15 autopsies where only the “Y” incision was used. I was not familiar with the “I” incision so was glad to get to read your post. |

That routine partial autopsy is probably all that was required in this case. Perhaps her parents didn't want a full one on their daughter. All the dissections I performed here in the UK were sternal notch-to-pubis I incisions. |

Always a humble reminder we're nothing more than a slab of meat not much different than cleaning a fish, chicken, cow, or any other animal you've ever had to clean for consumption.
