Re: Whiskey's Briefing Room IV

A russian guy living in Kursk sums up what happened yesterday and is still ongoing.

Vladimir Putin convenes meeting with top officials as defence ministry acknowledges fighting is ongoing.

A report from one Russia military blogger suggested Ukrainian forces had advanced northwards, possibly as far as nine miles (15km) from the border, along a highway north of the border village of Sverdlikovo and near a major natural gas transmission hub, but this could not be verified.

Official and unofficial Russian sources reported that a force of several hundred soldiers had crossed a lightly defended part of the border on Tuesday morning, in what appears to be one of the largest incursions into Russia since the war began in February 2022. Russia’s defence ministry said on Wednesday that the attack was being neutralised.

It had claimed russian forces had repelled the raid on Tuesday, but acknowledged at lunchtime on Wednesday that fighting was ongoing. It said they had used air and missile strikes and artillery fire against the invaders, inflicting 260 casualties and knocking out 50 armoured vehicles.

The attack is most likely to be an attempt by Ukraine, whose defences are stretched on the eastern Donbas front, to divert some russian forces to defend a part of the frontline that has been largely inactive since early 2022.

Meanwhile on social media: Reports of russian forces transferring national guard and large contingents of special forces units to guard the Kursk Nuclear power plant.

“AFU units have entered the western suburbs of Sudzha. The very center of the settlement, located in the lowlands, is in the "gray zone". russian troops retain control over the eastern part of the town, which is located on a hill.”

Russian sources on the Ukrainian offensive in Kursk region. "Everything is bad, very bad, and it couldn’t be worse. The situation is far from being stabilized"

Ukrainian forces are in control of all or most of the city of Sudzha, reached the outskirts of Korenevo, and overnight pushed north around Malaya Loknya, as per russian military bloggers and analysts.

Ukraine’s General Staff maintains silence about the offensive and its goals.

Ukrainian soldiers post videos of dozens, maybe hundreds, of russian POWs who surrendered in Kursk.

Documented losses inside russia include several IFVs and APCs on the Ukrainian side, two tanks and two-three helicopters on russian side.

The russian Army began to pull personnel from units in the Kupyansk, Seversk, and Ugledar directions for redeployment to the Kursk region.

Funny how that one dude very quickly corrected himself, saying "Ukrop (slur) flag" to "Ukrainian flag".

Re: Whiskey's Briefing Room IV

Russia was advancing little by little every day, on the donbas front. It seems that their advances ended when Ukraine opened up a second front. Most likely they are redeploying their offensive units to respond too Kursk offensive.

It takes too long to for russians to get reinforcements into the region. Informed channels write they have no strategic reserve. All their troops applying pressure in Donbas.

Almost reached the plant. Kursk, regional capital, is just north of this. I can't really believe that this might work O_o.

Re: Whiskey's Briefing Room IV

Intelligence had a great time unraveling how we use the topography of the area to put pressure on russian ground communications lines in the Kursk region.

The terrain here is very bad for the russians. If you superimpose it on a road map, you will see that the roads go straight through all the valleys, and the Ukrainians stand on all the 300-meter heights, which the russian convoys are forced to pass, getting into the affected areas.

Maps are currently based on russian summaries. Ukrainian forces have laid mines along the road from Suja to Bilica, which prevents direct access of the russians (highlighted in orange on map 2)

The Lhov - Belgorod railway also passes through the same area with several railway bridges, which, however, are not mentioned in the reports. Possibly Ukrainians are most likely crossing the road. They also set mines near bridges.

A likely indicator that Ukraine has done this yesterday was the announcement by russian Railways of the closure of several railway stations, including the Psel station in Giry and Suzhi, which means the closure of the entire railway line.

By mining communications along the strip would delay the russians and/or force them to move further north, which would further delay russian reinforcements from Belgorod and the Kharkiv operational zone, forcing their forces to go virtually all the way to Kursk and attack Ukrainian forces from the north.

Marks 2 and 3 on the map.

russian railways and bridges - black lines and icons (3)

russian defense lines - dark red lines.

yellow - probably under Ukrainian control/influence

orange - probably has a minimal Ukrainian presence.

Re: Whiskey's Briefing Room IV

Any footage yet of the Ukrainian operation in Russia? Apparently they hit the Russians pretty hard, including destroying a convoy of new troops.
Havent it been posted here? The convoy was torn to pieces. 400+/- dead.

I'll find the videos and post them later today.

Re: Whiskey's Briefing Room IV

In Kurshchyna, the Suja gas measuring station, through which gas goes to the EU, was damaged .

The photo from August 11 shows that one of the administrative buildings of the station, as well as one of the sites where the measuring equipment is installed, was almost completely destroyed.

At the same time, on Monday morning, "Gazprom" claimed that it continues to pump gas through the Suja gas pipeline to Europe in the usual volume.
