Re: Whiskey's Briefing Room III
Seems that ruzzians sells WESTERN weapons captured in Ukraine to Iran or Hamas do make it seems that Ukraine sells it on black market. At least that's what GUR's saying. https://www.facebook.com/10006904288...9452428366181/ |

Re: Whiskey's Briefing Room III
One observation is hamas should be using weapons with a lower recoil in close combat.

Re: Whiskey's Briefing Room III
That’s half the reason that the US went to 5.56, and the Soviets later went to 5.45mm. Hamas, being low on the totem pole, is probably still rocking mostly 7.62mm small arms. |

Re: Whiskey's Briefing Room III
I did notice one of those Al-Qassem Hamas guys was firing so wildly that even at close range he was putting bullets into the sky. That guy's adrenaline lack of training was making him ineffective, plus AKM's obviously have more recoil than any 5.56/5.45mm system. We (the US at least) switched from 7.62 to 5.56 for several reasons: - Much higher amount of ammunition that a single soldier could carry - Lessons learned in Vietnam that many engagements were happening at close ranges where using 7.62mm (The M-14 rifle) was detrimental due to its higher recoil and lower rate of fire. - Higher accuracy and effectivness engaging multiple targets (at close to intermediate range) - Cheaper, easier manufacture and distribution of ammunition |

Re: Whiskey's Briefing Room III
If I may interject regarding the caliber, it appears that the US Forces are either seriously considering or have already decided to transition to larger calibers. They seem to be adopting the XM7 by Sig in 6.8×51mm. This gun is heavier and has increased recoil.

Re: Whiskey's Briefing Room III
I've heard some reasons as well, i.e 1) Mostly, more ammo per mag. 2) They discovered that soldiers mostly fire at random, especially when receiving fire and being suppressed( just like most firefights seen on these forums, people just fire from cover, without looking ). If you dont aim, its better to fire more bullets and cover a larger area for a longer period of time. It gives you better odds of hitting something and better suppression. 3) 7.62 is also unnescessarily powerful. Its good when fighting in bushes and dense forests, but not that good on flat open grounds and urban environment. 5.56 is easily deflected by branches and stopped by treetrunks. 7.66 will punch through a mid-sized log and kill whoever is taking cover behind it. 4) As for accuracy, i'd say, when firing single shots, 7.62 is more accurate than 5.56 . I've fired both and with 7.62 I hit almost 100%, 49 hits out of 50. With 5.56, my accuracy was maybe 50%. |

Re: Whiskey's Briefing Room III
Good points - as for #4, as a firearms instructor after the service I noticed that with larger calibers, newer shooters tend to anticipate the shot more, dropping the barrel slightly. With a more experienced shooter (like you) this would be much less of an issue.

Kings & Generals on YouTube (one of my all time favorite channels) documentaries on the conflicts between Israel and its neighbors. High quality, informative stuff. I also greatly recommend the channel Epic History TV Notably in the 6-Day War (1967) and the Yom Kippur War (1973), Israel defended itself against multiple attacking Arab nations at the same time, and won both.
