Re: Whiskey's Briefing Room
Yeah Twitter is just one of their presences. Their main outlet is https://www.understandingwar.org/ Central and eastern Soledar is taken by Russian forces, mainly Wagner. Western outskirts of Soledar is not controlled by Rus forces and fighting is ongoing right now. There is a ton of tension between Wagner and Russian Ministry of Defense, comments in Wagner Telegrams are spicy. This is because Russian military has claimed they occupy Soledar when it's pretty clear Wagner forces are doing this. This especially heated up when General Gerasimov took charge of the Russian forces in Ukraine yesterday, who apparently has a very negative opinion of Prigozhin and Wagner. |

Re: Whiskey's Briefing Room
Yeah, been perusing ISW.com since the beginning of the invasion. Not 100% reliable but more so than many and one of the more knowledgeable all inclusive sources out there. I'm sure others will disagree and that's ok. I might be partial to their novel-esque posts. I saw that tension going on... today... Putin and Progozhin are macho dick sword fighting.

Re: Whiskey's Briefing Room
You still don’t seem to understand that the supposed importance is directly linked to any Ukrainian advantage. If they have control then it is a strong strategic stronghold protecting precious supply routes and whatnot. And then when Ukraine loses it then it turns out it has little value and it is weird why anyone would put soldiers there. I am calling it now: should/ once Kiev gets destroyed, they will write something like “Kiev has no value since central command relocated months ago, also Zelensky can use Zoom from Poland as the Russians are still unable to take out communications satellites” and you will nod your head in agreement. No offence, this is merely an observation. |

Re: Whiskey's Briefing Room
Incorrect. There are multiple examples of Ukraine losing control of a certain town/area and no one was saying that place was "useless anyway". A large example was in the war's first days when Kherson city was lost. Definitely not useless and this caused a big issue and people were saying the general in charge of its defense should be punished. Another example, Popasna. Another example, Severodonyetsk and Lysychansk. Another example, Mariupol, largely for its port access. Another example, Rubizhne. You can fantasize about western media and Faust on your own time, it won't be in here. |

Re: Whiskey's Briefing Room
I have to agree that implying that Ukraine (or the rest of the world) would chalk Kyiv off as meaningless if lost is... irrational? Ludicrous, absurd. Kyiv is a capital city. The largest city in the country. It's administrative/governmental capital. I wouldn't say that Soledar is useless but it certainly isn't comparable to Kyiv, if Kyiv was lost.
