I'm defending other human beings' right to exist and not be generalized, stereotyped, and thrown into a box. Not every single Russian is in favor of this war. There are many who aren't but face jail time or even death if they voice it. There have been people who have left their homes, the country itself because they oppose the war. There are two separate groups of Russians who are fighting on behalf of Ukraine against their own government and many who do so who aren't known publicly.

Those are the people I'm defending. People who, just like you and I, hate everything that Putin and his government are doing to Ukrainian people (as well as their own).

Those who are in favor of the war, have been fed a string of propaganda for YEARS from the Putin regime, and even beyond. And you have all the people in between who don't know what to think. But none of them are responsible for what is going on in Ukraine, ultimately.

I find it dangerous and irresponsible to condemn an entire population anywhere based on the actions of its government. With this logic, most countries on the planet should be exterminated as most governments have done some fucked up shit at one time or another in written history.

I grew up being told that Russians, all Russians, were the enemy and that they were going to nuke us some day. It was shoved down my throat in music, movies, TV, school and sometimes my own home. I'm sure it was the same in Russia against America.

I was 19 years old when the Soviet Union dissolved and the Berlin wall came down. I actually met Mikhail Gorbachev in June 1991. You know what he said to me when we shook hands? "It's so nice to be able to just walk up to a young American woman, on American soil and shake your hand. Thank you".

I don't know if this was just a nicety, a lie or what... but it was a significant time in history and it had an impact on me. After 45 years of both countries with their fingers on the red button, all of that was coming to an end and the President of our "enemy" just said what he said and thanked me. This is when I started seeing groups of people as individuals and stopped putting all Russians in the same box. Americans, Germans, French, Africans, whoever... they're not all the same. There are shitty humans in Russia... no doubt. But there are shitty human beings in every country on the planet. Where there are humans, there will be shit. But there are also amazing people everywhere.

Anyway, I'm not trying to suppress your "right" to express anything nor change your mind about how you view all Russian people. You're free to express your views all you want, just do it in the discussion thread. If it doesn't have anything directly to do with a video or picture posted in these threads, it should go in the discussion thread.

That is not necessary. This isn't personal. It's hard for me to see any losses but it's a war. People die in war and documenting the war is important.

In my opinion the "bridgeheads" in Kherson aren't bridgeheads, but a way to keep RU forces away from other areas, raise enough hell in that area to justify to RU leadership to keep a large amount of troops there, away from the Ukrainian main effort.

Clearly UA forces are attempting to bleed RU logistics, as per Kherson offensive last year, which was clearly a success, but this was leveraged by geography.

For me, all the water cooler is, is a toxic cesspool of absurdity, repetitive bitching, moaning, trolling and popularity contests. The same cast of characters doing and saying the same boring shit, every day. I haven't participated much in there in months.
