any males between 18-60 trying to flee the country end up like that, or are shot on sight when operating a vehicle and refusing to stop

Well, 1920's trains. I don't even know if those systems are still in use, now. It was just a cheerful thought.

Nice, good info. There was that one video of drones dropping grenades, putting Russians to sleep. The FGM-148 Javelin has two fire modes, top attack and direct. Direct can be used for low-flying helicopters. Not sure about the NLAW, but I would imagine it has a similar capability. Plus the Ukrainians have many 9K32/34 Strela MANPADS, even Germany apparently gave them some leftover from the cold war. |

Re: Russian/Ukraine War Discussion Thread (Part Zero): 24 Feb - 31 Mar 2022
Just passing on what I read from reputable sources. The Wall Street Journal (which the SOVIET government used in the 1960's. to estimate Russian industrial yields, since the Wall Street Journal estimates were always very close, and the Russian government couldn't get straight answers from their own industrial organizations!) The Christian Science Monitor (known for it's accuracy in reporting) Reuters of Canada, Swedish military analysts. Plus statements from the Ukrainians about how things are going. So far Zelensky seems to be telling the truth about the situations he faces. Not really any reason for him to lie. And some U.S. military analysts, who have dealt with Russia and their military for many years, and who are now explaining their reasons for their opinions on the matter. |

Re: Russian/Ukraine War Discussion Thread (Part Zero): 24 Feb - 31 Mar 2022
Thanks for clearing that up! I believe Zelensky is lying about most things; dragon island, ghost of Kiev, the attack on the supposed burning nuclear reactors, the 1300 civilian dead theatre bombing are just a few that come to mind. Never mind he forbids males from leaving the country, is making combatants out of ordinary citizens by authorising handing out assault rifles and so on. I understand most western sources are painting a picture that Ukraine is winning, yet, they are still begging for no-fly zones, military aid and whatnot. Meanwhile russia does not have gas, bullets, soldiers, functioning communications, any tactics, you know. Myself I believe Russia is absolutely destroying the Ukraine military. they still need to clear up some nazis, but I believe in the end they will have killed enough so that the nazis cannot claim any states, like ISIS did after the country was destroyed. But fingers crossed!! |

Re: Russian/Ukraine War Discussion Thread (Part Zero): 24 Feb - 31 Mar 2022
Whe whole "Nazisim" thing is way overplayed. There are indeed *some* "Nazi's" in Ukraine but they are far, far in the minority. I've also seen a few images that have clearly been photoshopped. If there were several hundred Nazi's in America's military, would you call America a "de-facto Nazi state"? No you wouldn't and you know that's ridiculous. They have no control over the country, their president is Jewish for christ sake. Don't throw in the whole of the Ukrainian people with those nutters. Russia is certainly killing significant numbers of Ukrainian military but don't give them too much credit. At conservative estimates, the Russians have lost more servicemen than the US did in 20 years in Afghanistan and Iraq combined. That's no small deal - for a much smaller former USSR member to deal this amount of damage to the Russian military this quickly is impressive. I did not think it would play out like this, I thought Kiev would be taken in less than a week and Zelensky would be on a plane to Slovakia as soon as Ivan was knocking on the capital's door. Zelensky is hedging his bets by asking for more aid and no-fly zones. Even if he was winning, which he probably is currently, why would he not ask for more aid? It's dumb not to. You're not being logical about how you're looking at this. |

Re: Russian/Ukraine War Discussion Thread (Part Zero): 24 Feb - 31 Mar 2022
Does anyone remember "Baghdad Bob" the Iraqi information minister who would do interviews on the street, and while he was talking about Saddam's big victories, U.S. Abrams tanks were rolling along behind him, with their crews smiling and waving at the cameras? He did so many interviews that were hysterically funny,(I think there were 10 or more by the end of the war. I have NO IDEA how he planned his statements, but he did that EVERY time he was on TV. It was almost like a comedy skit.) that some suggested he be invited to host "Saturday Night Live" but I don't know if they ever did approach him about it. That's what THIS guy sounds like. |
