Thanks to GODREKR for forwarding me this! I found a video of the supposed actual incident to put with it.

Looks like it happened some time ago as in the first video he's already heeled (healed) ( pun intended)

This is a video recently posted from Ukrainian soldier "Predator". He posts some very high quality action packed footage from his time on the front line.

The only thing his description said was "once upon a time"... so it could possibly be older footage.

Reading the comments where he was interacting further... it looks like he was injured from some sort of artillery (he said AGS) but may not have realized it right away due to adrenaline.

Near the end of the video he runs to another soldier who helps assess his injuries.

I will post any further info if I find it.

Looks like the boot had nothing to do with "saving his leg".
That petal mine seems to have mostly missed his leg. The angle of the explosion seems to be outwards and away from the leg. If that mine had exploded under his heel, it would be a different story, but it exploded under the small toe. Strong boots can actually make landmines more destructive by containing and funneling the explosive energy up along the leg instead of letting the explosive gases dissipate.
