1-3. "Soldiers of the Georgian Legion are working in the central part of Bakhmut. They move on Polish armored personnel carrier AMZ Dzik-2 At the same time, specialists from the OSINT sphere took advantage of the publication of the video. Images with the exact location of the unit are already circulating on the network. From them we can conclude that fierce battles are already taking place in the very center of the city. Earlier, one of the authoritative Georgian legionnaires Vano Nadiradze, in one of his interviews, stated that this should never be brought to this point. According to him, the Ukrainian army will suffer greatly if it fights in urban areas." 4. "Georgian volunteers walk near Kazbeguri past the corpses of other soldiers frozen into the ground"

The reported losses; is it possible they are actually the Ukrainian losses? The number of tanks is in accordance with the western published military capability of Ukraine (3000-5000 tanks prior to the conflict) I can’t read Russian so it could very well be the Ukrainian list |

Re: Russian Invasion Ukraine. Day: 351/352/353/354/355 (Feb 10st, 11, 12, 13, 14th)
The SPG-9, dubbed Kopye (Spear), is a Soviet 73 mm recoilless gun. It was originally designed to engage tanks and armored vehicles. It was adopted 1963 and is used ever since. It replaced in service the previous B-10 and B-11 recoilless guns. The SPG-9 was license-produced in a number of countries, including Bulgaria, Egypt, Iran, Pakistan and Romania. By 2019 Russian Army still used this weapon. Recently Ukraine planned to restart production of this weapon. The SPG-9 saw action during countless wars and military conflicts. Due to its size and weight the SPG-9 is not as popular as the RPG-7 anti-tank rocket launcher. However the SPG-9 has longer range, is more accurate and in most cases offers superior penetration. The SPG-9 is a rather versatile weapon, that can be used against armored vehicles, buildings and infantry. It fires fin-stabilized projectiles. Originally this weapon used a PG-9 High Explosive Anti-Tank (HEAT) projectile. In 1971 an OG-9 High Explosive Fragmentation (HE-FRAG) projectile was introduced. This added an anti-infantry capability. These basic projectiles have been improved over time and are available in a number of versions. Some countries, that license-produced the SPG-9, also introduced their indigenous ammunition for this weapon. The projectile is launched from the gun by a small charge. A rocket motor ignites once it has travelled 20 m from the gun. Initial velocity is 316-435 m/s depending on the type. The baseline PG-9 HEAT round is 920 mm long and weights 4.4 kg. It travels at a speed of 435 m/s. Effective range of fire is 800 m. Maximum range is 1 300 m. At its maximum range this projectile is still deadly. This HEAT round penetrates 300 mm of steel armor. An improved PG-9N round penetrates 400 mm of steel armor. A PG-9VS round was introduced in 1973. It has an effective range of 1 300 m and penetrates 400 mm of steel armor. The PG-9VNT was the most capable Soviet HEAT round for this weapon with a tandem warhead. It has a range of 1 300 m and penetrates 550 mm of steel armor, or 400 mm of steel armor behind explosive armor. The baseline OG-9 HE-FRAG round is 1 060 mm long and weights 5.35 kg. It was introduced in 1971. It travels at a speed of 316 m/s. It has a maximum range of up to 4 500 m. An improved OG-9VM round was introduced in 1976. It was followed in 1986 by an OG-9VM1. This weapon has got no recoil, however there is a dangerous backblast area of 30 meters behind the gun. This recoilless gun is normally transported by a vehicle and is carried into position by its crew. As with its predecessors, the SPG-9 it is too large and too heavy to be shoulder-fired. Though it is still a man-portable weapon. It is fired from a tripod mount. Sometimes this recoilless gun is fitted on a vehicles. East Germany used a modified UAZ-469B light utility vehicle fitted with this recoilless gun. Sometimes the SPG-9 is even mounted on watercraft. The SPG-9 is operated by a crew of 4, including commander, gunner, loader and handler. If requires this weapon can be operated by a crew of 2. This recoilless gun is breech-loaded. Maximum rate of fire is up to 6 rounds per minute. The gun can be redeployed within around a minute. The SPG-9 is used with a PGO-9, a 4x magnification optical sight. There is also available a PGN-9 night sight. Sighting range is 800 m. At this range CEP is less than 1 m. Perhaps the most interesting aspect of the SPG-9 is that it was used as a basis for the 73 mm gun of the BMP-1 infantry fighting vehicle, which was introduced a couple of years after the SPG-9. Gun of the BMP-1 uses the same ammunition as the SPG-9. |
