These surrenders are scripted and prearranged to protect both Ukrainians and Russians.
If the Russians surrender voluntarily, then they will procecuted and their families won't receive POW compensation. This is why their faces are covered. Its a requirement.
I think there are online tutorials/instructions on how and where to surrender.

There is really no value in faking anything like this...other than to be used as an online tutorial video which would serve as an example of surrender procedure.

UKR has a "surrender hotline". Any russian soldier can just call there, state his position and ask to be taken in etc. Thats probably what happened. Otherwise this BMP would have shot before its close enough to see these white flags.
