It was/is my understanding that the USA funded far right extremist groups to fight and cause escalation in the protests. They had a official twitter accounts/hashtags and news channels created for that. After that they knew there would be armed conflict to re-take Crimea. Or even understanding the position these guys play in Ukraines military.
Where Ukraine hadnt had any form of capable military , it was combat 14, (Combat 18 in the rest of the world)
That went to fight. No body fights harder for their nation than those who truthfully love the idea of their nation.
