Re: Russia/Ukraine War Discussion/thoughts Thread
I feel like it is not as bad as they are making it out to be, if Russia breaks through they can't go much farther west without exposing too much. They put too much into Severodonetsk and the Ukrainians are waiting for another weak spot like how Kharkiv evolved. We are going to see a horrifying Cauldron with Russians inside at some point and that is going to crush the rest of their will.

Jomini is worried, Tom is optimistic, Reisner was like dude we tried that in WWII and it did not work from the other direction, Fighting Cat Moore is neither worried or optimistic, just pointing out how stupid his side is being and getting shit done.

Re: Russia/Ukraine War Discussion/thoughts Thread
It's not a winning situation for RU no matter how this pans out. Best case scenario they take over whatever territories they want and deal with an insurgency. Worst case scenario UA beats their stupid fuckin RU ego into oblivioun and RU retaliates like a child throwing a fit. But... From what I'm reading and seeing... the consistent shelling on UA positions from RU are taking a toll. Also the lack of western weapons or delay of delivery. This struggle is too reliant. If the west/NATO doesn't step it up and soon... this is all but over. Trust.. I'm on the UA side but I'm also a realist. |

Re: Russia/Ukraine War Discussion/thoughts Thread
Yeah, the Russians are extremely Russian in that they're an artillery army with mechanized infantry support with some very good pilots but a lot of badly trained ones. Very backwards old-fashioned tactics. But those tactics can still work here and there. If Ukraine didn't have the vast amount of international support they do, they'd already be finished. But that's not what we're seeing here. I don't think the west will even allow a clear victory for Russia, they're too widely hated. For Christ sake Finland and Sweden submitted their NATO membership applications. Absolutely unheard of. Even the Swiss are helping. Yeah some countries will get bored and stop sending stuff, but the die is cast already. Mounting Russian opposition, which is the worst type for Putin. Lughansk and Donyetsk aren't exactly happy with all the conscription. Materiel and logistic issues. Russian soldiers asking openly why the fuck are they there. I can see this dragging on for a few years but quite frankly the Russians in terms of quick, fluid modern warfare are outmatched. Ukranian senior leaders appear to be very good. The only thing Russia has going for them is the vast amount of stuff they have. Even their manpower is struggling by now, that much is clear. They moved a bunch of troops from Melitopol/Zaporzizhia to reinforce the fucked up BTG's in Severodonyetsk/Izyum/Popasna. They're still reinforcing and entrenching new defensive positions at the Kherson front down south. Equipment being shipped from Irkutsk which is in eastern Siberia. These are big signs they have a problem. The writing is on the wall. The Ukranians have their problems which is obvious. But they're the ones at home defending their homes. And anyone with half a brain knows that an attacking force absolutely has to outnumber and outmatch a defending one, especially one that is well motivated. |

Re: Russia/Ukraine War Discussion/thoughts Thread
They really are not; Gasoline, grain, gas and so on; the price of all of those things affect general people a lot more. Having to take in millions of refugees out of Arab countries who cause a lot of issues (not all of them of course). Only because their news is telling them refugees are good, Arab conflicts are for peace, NATO wars are the right thing, has people cheerleading NATO. Russia wants to sell us stuff, china wants to produce our stuff. I believe most people would say our real enemy only wants to sell guns, arm conflict areas, create world instability, wage wars over resources. I think Nato is that real enemy. Their security means nothing, they only get more people killed over what is essentially solidifying Crimea, having independent republics without constant war nor shelling, and not having a military and warplanes ready to attack with missiles pointed at Russian cities. This was always going to happen. Nato doesn’t do shit, they only invade third world countries and have their population swallow refugees and worse economy. They were never chosen by anybody. Peace is something that people not only choose, but deserve. Some countries are willing to go to war for it. None of you stolen valor wannabes will ever amount to something, nor change anything. You might shoot up a mosque or school but you will never be able to change anything. |

Re: Russia/Ukraine War Discussion/thoughts Thread
Hold till the HIMARS, pop an opening and we see a pretty flower. Troops in the west are fresh, they used the TD battalions very well preserving the rest. I always get annoyed in Total War having to use militia, but one time I used Portuguese Miquelets and howitzers to LusiNazi all of North Africa but I went for France too and got bogged down in Syria and the computer started freezing |

Re: Russia/Ukraine War Discussion/thoughts Thread
In my experience people who accuse people of stolen valor tried to be in the military in their history and then found out they were massive pussies when they washed out of basic training. Or their girlfriend cheated on them with a soldier. That sucks Faust, sorry. |

Faust having a girlfriend or even attempting basic, oh man that is rich. Unless he had mandatory service, then he was probably kicked out for compulsive masturbation

Re: Russia/Ukraine War Discussion/thoughts Thread
So Faust was it you got hurt and couldn't heal quickly enough, mental issues about adjustment, or did you miss mom too much? The guys in my basic company who got sad had to walk around in bright orange vests and boots with no laces The day a private tried to kill himself by tieing the power cord of a floor buffer to his neck and throwing it out a 2nd story window was a bit fucking weird, the drill sergeants couldn't stop laughing when he didn't measure the power cord and the floor buffer just crashed on the concrete below with him standing in the window with a power cord tied around his neck |
