Re: ISRAEL/PALESTINE/IRAN/LEBANON Conflict Discussion Thread VI (2024)

Now we know what the latest IDF operation in Khan Yunis was about: 6 dead Israeli hostages were recovered from a Hamas tunnel in Khan Yunis. All of them died in Hamas captivity (lack of medication and abuse, since they were mostly of advanced age). Some of them were outright murdered in capitivy.

The number of hostages in Gaza dropped to 109. Just a fraction seems to be still alive. Most were likely as dead as the ones named above.

IDF Acts To Segregate Gaza Into Cantons
21 Aug 2024

Israel is not waiting for others to tell it what to do with Gaza. When this security plan comes to fruition, the Kissuf Corridor, along with the Netzarim Corridor, will effectively cut Gaza into three cantons.

Dr. Mordechai Kedar's canton plan is apparently being implemented. The IDF advanced at night to the fisherman's port in Carrara and cut off Khan Yunis from the center's camps.

The IDF plan, costing NIS 15 million, will expand the interior corridors and, together with the Philadelphia corridor and the Netzer corridor, the Gaza Strip will be divided into 3 parts.

Each canton in the Strip will be managed by a different body. The terrorists will not be able to move from area to area, in order to curb the smuggling of weapons and hostages.

Israel is not deterred by Iran, nor by Biden/Harris. The Hamas can bitch all they want. Israel is de facto cutting Gaza into smaller, more manageable parts.

It should be added that control over the Philadelphia Corridor will cut off Gaza from any contact with Egypt.
I expect Israel will ultimately need to establish a walled Coastal Corridor running north-south along the Gaza shoreline, in order to control Arab access to the open water, for national security purposes.

Re: ISRAEL/PALESTINE/IRAN/LEBANON Conflict Discussion Thread VI (2024)

Mostly taken for strategic reasons. A rocket from the Golan Heights could hit anywhere in Israel easily for example.
Israel mostly play defense, with threat of severe offense.

i have been watching the Palestine conflict vids. but i am still unsure why most Americans think it is okay to shoot an intruder in one's home, yet they go mad when Palestinians shoot people in an illegal settlement on their land. i fail to see the difference? these settlements are illegal in international law, one isn't supposed to steal land then fortify and live in it. so why the moral difference? i am not particularly supportive of either side, i just wondered why this is the case?

Israel Thwarts a Planned Hez Attack with Preemptive Strike
24 Aug 2024
The IDF pre-emtive strike was a total shock to Hezbollah who once again finds out that Israel knows it biggest secrets!

LEBANESE REPORT (posted on Arab channels in Arabic): Hezbullah planned to launch an attack of hundreds of rockets and missiles towards the center of the country, at 5:00.

About half an hour earlier - around 4:30 - the IDF air force's preemptive strike began, which included about 100 fighter jets that thwarted the Hez threat within minutes, and prevented the broad attack on Israel. More than 200 targets were attacked in a short time in southern Lebanon.

The Israeli security establishment claims that the launches carried out by Hezbullah in the last few hours to the north were "improvised and imprecise."

Re: ISRAEL/PALESTINE/IRAN/LEBANON Conflict Discussion Thread VI (2024)

It turned out that all of the six recently recovered dead hostages suffered gunshot wounds. It indicates they were murdered by their guards. Its not clear why. Mostly likely as reprisal for IDF strikes vs. Hamas leaders. Its also possible it happened out of frustration without orders from Hamas leadership.

Also see the post above. The six bodies where located in a tunnel in Khan Yunis. Hama s sealed off a tunnel section with a mockup wall. The bodies were hidden there, along with a weapon and ammo stash. The intel about the location was obtained from Hamas prisoners.

(I initially though most of the casualties happened cause of hardships and lack of medications. But it really looks like Hamas is shooting hostages.)

Bullet wounds in bodies of all 6 hostages from Gaza suggest they were killed by captors

Norwegian citizen (and Hamas commander) killed in Jenin by IDF Airstrike.
30 Aug 2024

Norwegian site VG reports that a Norwegian citizen named Wissam Khazem was killed this morning in Jenin, a West Bank refugee camp.

The family in Norway claims Wissam was not a militant or Hamas member: "My son was not a terrorist. He was an ordinary person who worked in a construction company. He tried to get his wife to Norway, but was refused three times. That's why he moved back to the West Bank," says his father, who lives in Skien. :wee violin:

However, a Hamas press release called him one of their commanders: The Al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of the Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas, announced "the martyrdom of the Qassam commander Wissam Ayman Khazem from Jenin camp, who ascended to heaven as a martyr this morning as a result of an airstrike that he was subjected to along with his resistance brothers: the martyr Mujahid Maysara Al-Masharqa and the martyr Mujahid Arafat Al-Amer, following their clash with the undercover forces in the village of Al-Zababdeh, east of Jenin."

The pic is his Instagram image, according to VG.

Two weeks before IDF troops arrived to rescue Farhan al-Qadi from the Gaza tunnels in which he had been kept for the majority of his ten-and-a-half-month captivity, the terror operatives tasked with guarding him fled, Hebrew media reported Wednesday as new details of his time as a Hamas hostage emerged.

According to reports, al-Qadi’s captors abandoned him in an underground room with nothing but some bread to eat after drills belonging to the IDF’s Combat Engineering Corps were heard nearby. Before leaving, the Hamas operatives rigged the surrounding tunnels with explosives, to ensure that he would not make it out alive, should he try to flee.

When IDF troops entered the tunnels days later, al-Qadi was asked to identify himself. “Don’t shoot! I’m Farhan,” he responded, according to the Wall Street Journal.

When “I heard Hebrew outside the door, I couldn’t believe it, couldn’t believe it,” he told President Isaac Herzog in a phone call soon after his rescue on Tuesday.

Re: ISRAEL/PALESTINE/IRAN/LEBANON Conflict Discussion Thread VI (2024)

I can't help but think that Hamas did not shoot this hostage before they fled because he is not a Jew. But then again, Hamas directly and indirectly killed thousands of Arabs, so nevermind.
