They really aren't IEDs. It isn't improvised explosives like the OKC Federal Building bombing. They are just taking leftover large calibre artillery shells that are leftover from the Iraq/Iran war and improvising a detonator. You strap three or four 155mm HE artillery shells together and you will break a Bradley in half.

Before I went over there, I thought these guys were dumb farmers with guns. I couldn’t have been further from the truth. Their tactics and deployments are very smart and calculated. Watch that video again. Every explosion has a “marker post,” meaning, when that vehicle crosses the post, it goes boom. I could go in and on with examples.. but they aren’t stupid, and they are determined by religion. It’s super fucked up.. and unfortunately, people in Afghanistan are and will continue to be a byproduct of the talibans ideology. |
