Pilot Steven Andelin Killed in Red Bull Plane Crash in Guatemala
I apologize for the video having no sound. That is the way I found it. I've been looking for one with sound and can't locate one. If anyone finds it please update thread. On January 25, 2020, a tragic accident occurred during a Red Bull aerobatic teams training session in Iztapa, Guatemala. An aerobatic plane, part of the Red Bull team and piloted by American Steven Andelin, crashed during practice maneuvers ahead of a scheduled airshow, resulting in the deaths of three individuals, including the pilot and two US citizens on the ground. The plane, part of the Chambliss team sponsored by Red Bull, was executing aerobatic maneuvers in preparation for the "Show Iztapa LXV Anniversary" event organized by the Aeroclub of Guatemala. During the flight, the aircraft began a vertical descent and, despite efforts to correct its course, it crashed into the ground, subsequently rushing into a small water channel. The accident occurred in the southern department of Escuintla, about 110 kilometers south of Guatemala City. The tragic incident led to the cancellation of the scheduled airshow, with the Aeroclub of Guatemala expressing deep sorrow and extending condolences to the bereaved families. The Directorate of Civil Aviation in Guatemala also expressed regret over the accident and confirmed their collaboration with the respective authorities carrying out the investigation into the incident. |
