Leaked Video From the F-35 Crash on the USS Carl Vinson
A leaked video showing a harrowing crash of an F-35C Lightning II fighter jet aboard the aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson on January 24, 2022, has led to a Navy investigation and subsequent charges against several sailors. The incident, which occurred during routine flight operations in the South China Sea, resulted in the jet crashing into the deck of the carrier and then sliding off into the sea, according to footage from the ship's flight deck cameras. The video, which surfaced online, depicts the fighter jet, part of the 'Argonauts' of VFA-147 Strike Fighter Squadron, experiencing a rear explosion upon deck impact. This was followed by the aircraft skidding across the length of the carrier before plunging into the South China Sea. The leaked footage reveals the pilot ejecting from the jet during the skid. In the crash, seven sailors were injured, with three, including the pilot, evacuated to a hospital in the Philippines. The remaining crew members received treatment on board. Naval Air Forces confirmed the unauthorized release of the video footage, which was shared on various social media platforms including Twitter and YouTube. This led to an investigation into both the crash itself and the leak of the footage. Pentagon Press Secretary John Kirby emphasized the importance of the footage for understanding the crash dynamics during a press briefing. In a significant development following the investigation, four senior enlisted sailors and a junior officer faced charges under Article 92 of the Uniform Code of Military Justice. The charges, related to failure to obey a lawful order, were due to the unauthorized release of government video footage from the aircraft carrier. This release, without proper clearance, was considered a serious breach of military protocol.

Re: Leaked Video From the F-35 Crash on the USS Carl Vinson
Actually, there should be a really high quality video out there, since they film all flight deck operations. You can see all the ramp strikes and other snafus on YouTube. Maybe it will take a couple years for this actual video to be released. But it's too notable an event to be kept secret for long. |

Re: Leaked Video From the F-35 Crash on the USS Carl Vinson
LOL... If they get caught. That was horrible! Its during the day with what looks like calm seas and the pilot still fucked it up. I was on the USS Camden LKA115 and at NAS Lemoore. Landing at night during rough seas is the hardest. |
